Technical Specifications
The K-100 delivers precise potassium measurements from 0.4 to 39,000 mg/L with automatic temperature compensation via the integrated PT1000 sensor. The ion-selective membrane provides exceptional selectivity for potassium ions, enabling accurate monitoring of this critical plant nutrient.
Understanding Potassium in Agriculture
Potassium is one of the three primary macronutrients (N-P-K) essential for plant growth:
Plant Functions
- Water Regulation: Controls stomatal opening and plant water balance
- Photosynthesis: Activates enzymes in photosynthetic processes
- Protein Synthesis: Essential for protein formation
- Disease Resistance: Strengthens cell walls and disease resistance
- Fruit Quality: Improves size, color, and shelf life
Hydroponic Applications
- Leafy Greens: 150-250 mg/L
- Fruiting Crops: 250-350 mg/L
- Flowering Plants: 200-300 mg/L
- Vegetative Growth: 150-200 mg/L
Deficiency Symptoms
- Yellowing of older leaves (chlorosis)
- Brown scorching of leaf edges (necrosis)
- Weak stems and poor root development
- Reduced fruit quality and yield
Optimal Potassium Levels
- Hydroponic solutions: 150-350 mg/L
- Greenhouse irrigation: 100-250 mg/L
- Soil solution: 40-80 mg/L
- Drinking water: Typically 2-10 mg/L
- Natural water: 1-5 mg/L
Connectivity and Integration
The K-100 supports dual output for integration into greenhouse, fertigation, and agricultural IoT systems:
RS485 Modbus RTU:
- Connect to Agrinovo Omni Genesis or Exodus controllers for cloud-based potassium monitoring
- Multi-drop bus networking (up to 32 sensors per bus)
- Standard Modbus registers for K⁺ concentration and temperature
- Compatible with SCADA, PLC, fertigation controllers, and greenhouse automation
RS485 Modbus RTU Output:
- Direct connection to nutrient dosing pumps for potassium adjustment
- Scalable output range mapped to measurement range
- Ideal for closed-loop fertigation control
Installation and Maintenance
Positioning: In hydroponic systems, install in the recirculating nutrient reservoir or return line where the solution is well-mixed. For soil solution monitoring, install in lysimeter sample lines or drainage collection points.
Calibration: Two-point calibration using KCl standard solutions. For hydroponics, calibrate at 100 mg/L and 400 mg/L. For soil solution monitoring, use lower range standards. Recalibrate every 1-2 weeks in nutrient-rich solutions.
Interference Note: The K⁺ ISE has cross-sensitivity to ammonium (NH4⁺). In systems using ammonium-based fertilizers, account for this interference or use ammonium-free calibration solutions.
Nutrient Balance
Potassium should be monitored alongside other nutrients for optimal plant growth:
- Nitrogen (N): Growth and leaf development
- Phosphorus (P): Root development and flowering
- Calcium (Ca): Cell wall strength
- Magnesium (Mg): Chlorophyll production
